Characterization of Aeromonas hydrophila Isolated from Aquatic Environments Using Phenotypic and Genotyping Methods

Ten strains of Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from water samples were characterized by various methods including biochemical and physiological tests, as well as PCR-RFLP analysis with Universal 16s rRNA primers. Biochemical characterization and PCR-RFLP analysis proved to be useful, rapid and reliable method for identifying widely distributed Aeromonas spp. from environmental samples. The significance and impact of the current study: monitoring the levels and species composition of Aeromonas in water samples is advisable to minimize human health risk.
